SOLUTION

Obstacles cannot be "trained away." The solution is to remove the things that hinder performance. If obstacles can't be entirely eliminated try to reduce their impact.

Obstacles can take many forms and can include:

• outdated procedures
• cumbersome forms or rules
• counter-productive processes
• poor workplace layout

• poor working conditions
• distractions or nuisances
• unclear objectives
• poor working relationships, etc.

• problems with other people

• problems at home

• handicaps

Analyzing and Solving People Problems

Solution Explanation:

Carefully investigate the conditions that work against better performance. Once they are identified try to eliminate or reduce their impact. Better yet, instead of waiting for obstacles to arise, be on a quest "proactively" to streamline and improve processes and working conditions. Look for ways to make doing a good job easier on your performers.
